Petra Cafe in Monterey

We were walking down the street, trying to decide where to eat, when a passer-by recommended Petra's. He said it was delicious, and he was right! Terrific food and service! Try it!

My fav spot for delicious mediterranean food. Cool place to meet and catch up with coworkers. Prices were fair for the quality of the food. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I loved to visit.

Love the shwarma with middle eastern not sauce. Its great they are open late night on the weekends because I can actually get food after im off work. And the bonus is drunk people watching while you wait in mine

Best gyro in Monterey and the owner is very nice

Amazing experience. This was my first trip back after going vegan so I figured my options would be limited-- boy was I wrong! The owner is so sweet and went through all the ingredients, then how each is prepared and cooked. He then went brought everything they could make me for the entire menu. I decided on the falafel bites, a side of hummus and dolmas. They even packaged everything to-go. Everything was incredible. Excellent food quality and service.

Excellent food, even better service. We stopped in for a quick dinner with two toddlers, which is a recipe for chaos. The owner/server was so helpful and polite, and the food was exactly what we were craving. Delicious hummus and the tzatziki had my toddler in heaven. We will definitely visit again when we are in Monterey next.

Amazing food!!! The owner was so kind & accomodating :) he was even kind enough to put up with me stumbling my way through an Arabic greeting, as I’ve just started learning the language. Also, really love the location...it’s in the middle of everything in downtown Monterey :)

I bought yesterday a kebab at night. It was 11 Dollars and the size of a taco, taste wise it was average. They clearly make use of their midnight food monopoly and the prices are far too high for the quality you get. I am sorry, I really felt ripped off.

I came here once and will never go back. I asked for my meal to be vegan and feta cheese was sprinkled on everything. I let the person who was working there, that seemed to be the owner, know that there was cheese on everything. He told me to pick it off. Needless to say this infuriated me. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I can't believe people that own restaurants don't care about ingredients they serve to people that could make them extremely sick or violate their religion or beliefs.

Delicious! Authentic and the owner is wonderful. Just the kind of small business we like to support.

Tasty middle eastern/Mediterranean classics, owner was extremely friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend!

Fabulous food and even better service. Walked in mid week with my husband and two sons (4 yrs and 13 months) and was welcomed like family! Lots of places cringe when two little ones arrive but the owner was so gracious - he even brought us extra pitas for the boys and sent us on our way with a complimentary treat. We shared the platter and it was delicious! What a great find! We will be back the next time we are in town.

I always see the same guy serving us and eating here feels like eating at a friend's house. He really wants you to feel right at home, he wants to make sure your food is great. Just love it. I often get myself the Chicken Gyro combo (the lamb is good too but chicken is lighter so I can eat more of the French fries 😝)

Awesome falafel sandwich!!! Falafels were moist & flavorful. Pita bread seemed it was freshly baked. Fine Greek salad. Service was great too, almost familial.

Rude service, nasty food, and not clean will never set foot in this place again.

The service was not great, the portions of the salads and fries were noticeably different between plates. For example I got half as much fries as my friend, his was seasoned, mine was not. I ordered the chicken gyro combo, processed chicken gyro meat was used, but it tasted ok none the less.

Great value and good food. You will not get ripped off here. Good to take back to the hotel room. I had the chicken shawarma, and it was good and authentic Lebanese style. Not a date place.

Absolutely the most outstanding gyro in Monterey area! Their falafel is the best I've ever had. Service was friendly, fast, and enjoyable. Can't wait to take out a meal from these wonderful folks.

Absolutely delicious gyros and Mediterrainian dishes, combined with the most hospitable owner and host of this venue makes Petra Cafe a must visit if you want to support small local business owners! The owner (I think his name was Sam) is from Jordania decent if I remember correctly, and he proudly will share his passion for his country of origin, as well as welcome you into his life as a proud american. If I'd live in Monterey, or in CA in general, I'd visit Sam more often! Huge recommend and proud on his accomplishments of building his life in the USA!

Great food and people!

The food is a great price, tastes good, and it never takes longer than 10 minutes (often even less than that) for me to get my food. The owner is also very nice. The first time I came in he was happy to give me suggestions. Not to mention, once I asked him about the baklava and he gave me one on the house. Definitely recommend!

The worst restaurant that I have ever tried. The food is cold,and they are out of ketchup . We ordered burger for the kids and they said we are out of buns. Very very bad experience.

Ive been there 5 or 6 times and am impressed each and every single time. The staff is kind and respectful, the food is delicious, prime location whilst walking in downtown monterey. I will continue frequenting this restaurant for as long as I'm here

Love the gyros I worked at international market back many many years ago and that's how I know and love this food back then a gyro cost 4.99 now thier almost 10 bucks time has change lol
